Part 1: Zoom Meeting
The first part of the course is a Zoom meeting where you will learn the fundamentals of backpacking and wild camping. Our experienced instructors will cover the following topics:
Gear: We will discuss the essential gear you need for a successful backpacking trip. This includes items such as a tent, sleeping bag, backpack, and cooking equipment.
Food and Water: We will discuss the importance of proper nutrition and hydration while backpacking, and go over different meal and water filtration options.
And There Is More…
Navigation: We will cover basic navigation skills, including how to use a map and compass.
Leave No Trace: We will discuss the principles of Leave No Trace and how to minimize your impact on the environment.
Safety: We will cover safety considerations, including wildlife safety and emergency preparedness.
Part 2: In-Person Two-Day Hike
The second part of the course is an in-person two-day hike where you will put your newly acquired skills to the test! Our instructors will lead the group on a beginner-friendly hike, providing guidance and support along the way. You will have the opportunity to practice setting up a tent, filtering water, cooking meals, and navigating the trail.
We will provide a detailed itinerary and gear list before the trip, so you know exactly what to expect and what to bring. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and fun environment for you to learn and explore.
Whether you’re looking for a new adventure or just want to get outside and connect with nature, our Beginner Backpacking and Wild Camping Course is the perfect way to get started. We hope to see you soon!
This course has limited numbers so early booking is essential
Some kit can be loaned but in general, we require participants to seek to acquire their own kit in advance of the hike and camp.
Participation in the zoom meeting is not compulsory but it is recommended and it’s a good way to meet the guide and the other members of the group.
