Android Coming Soon!

And the iOS version will follow shortly after.

Building upon the intense period of website redevelopment seeing Wales Outdoors ‘take back control’ of it’s payment portals by ditching PayPal, of it’s booking systems by sidelining meetup and of it’s content and chatter by developing it’s own, simple, social media platform, Andy, the Wales Outdoors owner, was keen to have a simplified mobile version of the website, so, an app has been born. It’s been sent to the Google Play store and we are waiting for a human review of the app prior to it going live, likely in seven days time!

Arriving at the app new users will see the events calendar and a drop down menu. It is then possible to view the apps content such as all of the events we have programmed in, the about page which informs visitors a little about the history of Wales Outdoors and it’s leaders, a contact page and the store where we sell membership and kit and gift vouchers.

App Gallery

The app is an active and engaging space as it is in receipt of push notifications of content generated on the Wales Outdoors website, so blog posts and comments on blog posts as well as new member sign ups will all be delivered to your phone as pop ups when you open up the app. Of course, you can disabled these but we think let them live for a while. There won’t be a great deal of traffic and in the main it’s all relevant to walking in Wales and Beyond!

Unique to Wales Outdoors, we think, is our social area, a Facebook like wall, profile page, members and friendship portals, group chat and a photo and file sharing space. This is the place to chat before and after an event, share photos and to make lasting friendships with people you met on one of the Wales Outdoors walks. You can view some of this content but to be able to get involved and create your own profile you will need to login. Don’t worry, all login information is encrypted and we will, unlike Facebook, NEVER sell your data for claim ownership of your content.

We have lockdown to thank for this technological innovation. Without the downtime this would never have been built. The move away from the appalling Paypal, the problematic Meetup and the criminal Facebook would likely never have been made.

We’ll let you know when the app is live and will push out links to it’s download page and we do hope that a good few of you take the opportunity to engage with us in a safe and friendly environment before and after getting out on the hill with us 🙂
