From Cardiff: The Amazing Waterfalls Of South Wales and The Brecon Beacons

No car? No worries. We can pick you up in Central Cardiff for this tour of the famous Brecon Beacons waterfalls!

Discover the very best waterfalls in South Wales on this expertly guided day tour from Cardiff, crafted by Wales Outdoors to showcase some of the region’s most spectacular and lesser-known natural attractions. This immersive experience combines scenic driving, gentle hiking, and local storytelling, perfect for visitors seeking an unforgettable day out in the Welsh countryside.

Travelling in a comfortable, eco-friendly electric minibus, you’ll explore a series of stunning waterfall locations with short, guided walks at each stop. The total walking distance is approximately 7km, with well-maintained paths and gradual inclines through beautiful woodland, river valleys, and mountainous landscapes, ideal for most fitness levels.

Your adventure begins with a 9am meet-up at the National Museum Cardiff, where your experienced local guide will welcome you before heading out into the heart of South Wales.

On Thursdays and Fridays, the first stop is the historic Aberdulais Falls, where dramatic cascades meet industrial heritage. Here, you’ll find one of Europe’s largest remaining waterwheels, once used during the Industrial Revolution. Surrounded by lush greenery, this peaceful site is rich in wildlife and native plant life, offering a gentle 1km walk to start your day.

Next, visit the enchanting Melincourt Falls, tucked within ancient oak woodland. A short riverside walk leads you to this elegant waterfall, where water tumbles gracefully into a secluded gorge below, an ideal spot for nature lovers and photographers alike (approx. 1km).

After a relaxing lunch stop at a local canal-side café, the tour continues to the breathtaking Henrhyd Falls, the highest waterfall in Brecon Beacons National Park. Depending on the day, you’ll either enjoy a standard walk (1.5km) or a longer riverside hike (up to 3km). Here, you’ll have the unique opportunity to walk behind the curtain of falling water, an unforgettable highlight. Film fans may also recognise this location from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.

The journey continues with a scenic drive over the Rhigos Mountain Road, offering panoramic views across the South Wales valleys and peaks. Your final stop is a guided forest walk to Pen Pych, a hidden gem perched high above the valley, featuring a series of cascading waterfalls and sweeping vistas (approx. 3.5km)

If time permits, there’s also the option to visit Rhondda Heritage Park, where you can delve into the rich coal mining history of the Welsh Valleys and enjoy a traditional Welsh tea and cake in the on-site café.

This South Wales waterfalls tour is perfect for walkers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts looking to explore beyond the typical турист trail. With expert guidance, varied landscapes, and carefully selected locations, it’s one of the best day tours from Cardiff for experiencing the natural beauty of Wales.

How fit do you need to be to climb Brecon Beacons?

Being fit to walk steep inclines helps, but we believe that mental stamina is key. Most with the will can ascend to the summit and descend Pen y Fan in about 3.5 hours. A good level of fitness is required for all of our mountain group hiking trips.

How long is the Brecon Beacons waterfall walk?

Either of the four waterfalls hikes are half days. Wales Outdoor's eight waterfalls hike is a glorious six-hour day and delivered at a gentle pace.
